Woe is me

Have you ever tried to sleep in a lower-leg cast? Well I have, and it is not easy. You know how it takes a while to find that sweet spot where you can begin to peacefully drift to sleep? Well, not only do I have to find my own sweet spot, but I have to find one for it, too. It's like the cast is a person. A needy, annoying little person. No sooner do I find a comfy position, then it starts to whine: " Don't put me there, that hurts!" or " Don't you dare lay me this way or I will cut off your circulation!"  Once the cast and I are both happy, sleep comes. But only after a battle. Then, oh, then- comes the inevitable kick. I guess I kick around in my sleep sometimes. Which has never been a problem.....until now. Imagine a few pounds of fiberglass whacking solidly into the hard wall. I tell you, the impact rattles my teeth. It also makes me wake up in a blind panic, freaking out. That's how I woke up a moment ago. So, just thought I'd share my middle-of-the-night frustrations with the whole world. Only 3 more nights of this. If it were longer, I think I might go crazy. Like, for real.

Great. Another fecthing addiction.

Thanks to my sister, Hannah, I now have a new addiction. I tried to stay away, but it was just fighting fate. Which, actually, is a big theme on this show. Now I have been sucked in, and will remain so until the very end. Here's to you LOST.

Aren't these the cutest?

I walk past them every day in the window of the gift shop at my work. It almost makes me wish my brother and sister-in-law were having a girl instead. Almost.

Two Things I am Loving Tonight

First off, I dedicate this post to Crystal. She sometimes still checks my blog, even though I haven't updated it in almost 2 years. Two long, and eventful, years. So Crystal, if you happen across this, this one's for you. :-)

I came across an old friend's blog today, and it made me feel like writing on my own for some reason. So, I thought since this is my blog, no one really reads it, and I can do whatever I want, I will.
I have two obsessions tonight. One is a fairly old obsession that I have rediscovered, and the other is newly acquired. Both are fantastic, and actually go quite well together.

1st off is:

You got it. Lemon Bars. Sweet, tangy, yellow, delicious, melt-in-your-mouth lemon bars. I used to make these with my Grandma, and I forgot how much I loved them.

The 2nd thing making my night is:

I fought so long against liking this show. Everybody loved it, and I refused to watch it because it seemed like everything else out there. How wrong I was. This show is genius, and I love the character development. Thanks to Hulu and Blockbuster, this has now become an addiction. And I have hooked one of my brothers, which makes it fun because we watch and obsess over them together.

Well, there you have my night in a nutshell. Really. I made Lemon Bars, and watched 4 episodes of Bones. With my brothers. All 3. It was a fun night.

Knowledge is Power

I LOVE Wikipedia. A lot. I get so curious, and it is so great to be able to look up things I'm wondering about. I use it to research such things as: the origin of Ginger Ale, bands I like, how mascara is made, recipes, movies, old news stories, historical figures, artists, plants, cities, spices and where they come from, shaving cream, candy, the list can go on and on. I just love it. I have decided to do a new little research project, just for fun, using Wikipedia. Starting alphabetically, I will research all the countries in the world. Not everything about each country, because that would be a lot, but I mainly want to memorize their capitol, their location, what type of government they have, and what language they speak. I have a little notebook picked out for the task, and I will research two countries at the begining of each week, write down the information, and then study it the rest of the week. If I do 2 a week, after 52 weeks I will have memorized 104. How many countries are there in the world??
To answer my own question (I just looked it up on Google), there are 195 countries, including Kosovo. So, that's another 45 weeks after the first 52. This will keep me occupied for almost two years. How funny! Well, I'll start this week. The first two countries on the list are: Afghanistan and Albania. Here we go........

Vettriano paintings and Scottish Bands

Today while looking for a background picture for my blog title, I came across this painting by Jack Vettriano. It's called "The Singing Butler." It has always been one of my favorites, and I am a big fan of Vettriano's work. (Well, most of it.) I read somewhere that this painting sold for about $3 Million. If I ever become a billionaire, this is one of the first things that I would buy. This, and a sweet townhouse in Paris. And also food for struggling nations, of course. :-)
But since I am extremely unlikely to ever have $3 Million to blow on this painting, I'll have to settle with buying the poster version of it, to go on my wall. I should look for one. I also think it would be way neat to re-create this look in a photo shoot with real people. Hmmm.

On another note, kudos to Lauren today for introducing me to the sweet, accent-heavy sounds of ' The Twilight Sad'. They are a rockin' Scottish band, and I can't believe I didn't know of their existence until today.

Wow. I finally got a blog. *Sigh*
